Our double section was part of the original Cheviot Maternity grounds now a residential area. The house and garden were established in 1991 over the years with a change of owners it became an entirely native garden. We have now been here for 19 years and have built up the soil with compost, pea straw and sheep pallets, in the winter it can become wet, and as with this summer’s drought rock hard. My choice of plants is more a cottage garden. Easy care, lots of Daffodils, Tulips, and Camilla. Also, four newly planted flowering Cherrie trees for spring showing. Summer brings on the Hellebores, Roses, Penstemon, Peony Roses, Dahlias, and a variety of annuals. The large liquid Amber tree gives us shade for the summer months then in the Autumn comes into its absolute glory, then provides masses of leaves for the compost heap. On writing this in early Autumn the Gaura plants are still a mass of bloom covered with bees and butterflies and the first of the Autumn Crocus just starting to come through. We get much pleasure sharing the garden with people, swapping plants and ideas.
