Paradise with a view

Hosts: Dorothy & John Geen

Address: 19 Coleridge Street, Hanmer Springs

After nearly 20 years we are reaping the benefits of a secluded tranquil garden set against a backdrop of mountains, combining formal and informal design, with a mix of exotic, native, flowering and foliage plants for year-round colour and texture, complimented with the use of pots and garden art throughout.

With harsh winters and scorching summers much thought is given to the varieties of trees and shrubs for seasonal interest year round – the spring explosion of colour, finding those little treasures tucked away, watching a breeze move the tussocks, looking out at a frozen world of ice crystals, spectacular autumn foliage, leaves fluttering to the ground, magical skeletal branches against a brooding winter sky or Kowhai dripping with flowers full of bellbirds having breakfast - making it hard to leave and head of to work!

As plants outgrow their space, we either remove or limb them up and underplant and finding new varieties as trends change so needing to find a space. Those of you who have been before will see these changes. This year will see a new sculpture and a secret path. We hope you can go home with some new ideas for your own piece of paradise. Enjoy!
