Scholarship Application

Hurunui Garden Festival is proud to supply education to young people, through our scholarship programme.

Each year, subject to the festival’s outcomes, a scholarship will be offered to a student residing in the Hurunui District, with the level of support to be determined annually, up to $2,000.

This scholarship is intended to support study in horticulture, agriculture, landscape design or a similar related field at a university or institute of technology of the recipient’s choice.

Who can apply?‍ ‍

Any student in their final year of schooling from year 11 to year 13.‍ ‍

Applicants must have their family home within the Hurunui District boundary, although it is recognised that some applicants may currently be attending a school outside the district.‍‍ ‍

What does the student need to be planning to study?

Horticulture, Agriculture, Landscape Design, or a related field.  Similar fields can apply but preference will be given to those mentioned.‍‍ ‍

Why would a student apply?‍ ‍

To assist with the fees associated with the course such as tuition fees, textbooks, course related costs or living expenses.

When can the student apply?‍ ‍

Applications open August 1 2026 and close 31 October 2026.

Once the form is successfully completed, and submitted, it’s receipt will be acknowledged.

How will the winner be contacted?

The winner of the scholarship will be contacted by the committee and payment will be made directly to the institution or on receipt of an invoice showing what the funds will be covering (ie: text books)

Additional Information:

The HGF committee will make the final decision and no discussions will be entered into.

The committee has the right to award the scholarship to one person or more, meaning the total amount of the scholarship may be split equally between recipients.

The scholarship can be spent on tuition fees, text books, course related costs or living expenses.

Publicity Agreement:

By accepting the scholarship, the chosen recipient(s) consent to the use of their name, field of study, and photograph, to be used on our social media channels, website, future printed brochures and potential press releases.
