The creek flowing through Coldstream Garden is the secret to the spectacular growth of this cool sheltered garden. Established 37 years ago, the one-hectare garden wraps around the homestead, with a series of interconnecting lawns and pathways that led you from one beautiful, calm space to the next.

Mature oaks and silver birches provide height and soft filtered light to protect the large garden beds full of established roses, camellias, and rhododendrons. Together with mass plantings of daffodils, tulips and peonies, these beds put on a magnificent spring display. Between the canopy and underplanting you’ll see enticing views across the surrounding farmland to distant mountains.

Coldstream stream is put to good use naturally filtering the waters of a large pond surrounded by extensive planting. The jetty is a great spot to feed the eels that come and visit.

A major storm last October took out mature trees, but has brought more light into the garden, opening up views and cheering up the roses. We have some lovely plans for our new, unexpected garden beds, so come and see what we are developing.

You’ll find plenty of restful spots to take in the quiet grandeur of the garden.
