Garry's Garden

10 Newton Place, Amberley

Amberley’s Secluded Secret

Hosts: Garry Jackson

Address: 10 Newton Place, Amberley

(Newton Place is a 100m private laneway. Signposted public parking is on Douglas Road, with a short walk through a “tunnel” of oak trees to #10 at the end of the laneway. Limited disabled parking is available at the house).

Established as a new residence in 2005, my garden was originally designed and planted by renowned landscape designer Greg Bloomer on this very private, 3000sqm section. In the two years of my ownership, there has been extensive renewal and extension of the plantings, combining Greg’s ongoing interest and my learning initiatives.

On entry, the gardens literally “open up” before your eyes, as you proceed across expansive lawns, past three large patio areas that seamlessly connect the house with the views, and the extensive rural landscape. Overall, it feels like a “retreat”, secluded and somewhat secret within the Amberley township. The lawn is surrounded by large gardens with numerous specimen trees, rhododendrons and camelias from the original plantings. The newer gardens feature many spectacular rose displays, swaths of spring bulbs and ground cover plantings, all reflecting my love of colour. Wherever you ramble, you will find enticing seating nooks and views, and informative signs and stories …. I believe gardens should talk to you!

Two special, new features are my personally planned fragrant garden, and “Little Italy”, my vegetable garden with a difference! And there’s much more to see, even beyond the gardens themselves, but that awaits your visit.
